About Us
In addition to our CSO related daily patrol duties, the Mounted Patrol Club also participates in many campus community events including Monster Mash, Special Friends Day, and Rutgers Day (formerly known as Ag Field Day).
The Rutgers University Mounted Patrol is both a Club and a student job at Rutgers University - New Brunswick. We've been a part of the community since the 70's. A s a job, we're a division within the Community Service Officer (CSO) program overseen by the Rutgers Public Safety Department in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We are comprised of an average of 12 trained student officers and 3 horses, two of which go out each day. The maintenance of horses and organiztion of the patrol schedule is overseen by or student supervisor. The Mounted Patrol is located on the Cook/Douglass campus and patrols seven days a week while classes are in session.
Our duties as part of the CSO program consist of patrolling the campus in uniform. We often get to interact with our peers and community members, making us similar to a roving Blue Light System. In the event that we witness or are told of a person in distress or a breach of campus security, we have direct contact with the Rutgers Police Department and Dispatch. We are trained in first aid and CPR, and also have extensive knowledge of the campuses we patrol in order to give directions.
